English language ability
To be awarded points for your English language ability, you will need to have either proficient English or superior English.
You have proficient English if you’ve scored at least a seven on each of the four components of the IELTS test or have an OET language test score of at least B on each of the four components.
You have superior English if you had scored at least an eight on each of the four components of the IELTS test or have a score of at least a A on the OET
language test
Employment
To be awarded points for your employment it must have been in the last 10 years and in your occupation or a closely related one.
You can be awarded points for overseas employment and also for Australian employment you can combine them but you cannot calculate more than 20 points total.
Points for overseas employment are awarded as follows:
- If you have three years of experience you will get 5 points
- If you have five years of experience you will get 10 points
- If you have eight years of experience you will get 15 points
Points for Australian employment are as follows:
- If you have one year of experience you will get 5 points
- If you have three years of experience you will get 10 points
- If you have five years of experience you will get 15 points and
- If you have eight years of experience it is 20 points
Professional year
To be awarded points for your professional year you will have to have completed the professional year in Australia in your nominated occupation or are closely related one for a period of at least 12 months in your past 48 months.
For this you will be awarded 5 points
Educational qualifications
- If you have completed your diploma level education, you can get 10 points.
- If you have completed a bachelor degree or a masters degree you can get 15 points.
- If you have completed a doctorate degree, then you can get 20 points.
Australian study
You can claim 5 points for your Australian study if you have studied a registered course in Australia, if this course was at least two years of study and it was conducted in English.
Community language
You may claim 5 points for a specific community language which is spoken in Australia but please be aware that your knowledge must be certified by NAATI or your government.
We see many cases where people have calculated these points when they know how their own language but not at a professional level.
Studying in regional area of Australia
If you had completed your studies in original area of Australia and you have lived in the same region then you can claim 5 points
Partner skills
You can claim 5 points for your partner skills if your partner fulfills the basic requirements and that is if:
- Your partner is under 45 years of age
- Has a good knowledge of English and
- Has also received a suitable positive skill assessment
Sponsorship and nomination
You can be awarded 5 points if you’re nominated for a subclass 190 and if you’re nominated for a subclass 489 then you will receive 10 points.
If you have relative who is sponsoring you and lives in a Designated Area then you can receive 10 points.
