Facts About the Australian Weather

Australia is such a large country that we experience all sorts of weather, ranging from equatorial on the very northern tip to tropical and subtropical to grasslands and temperate zones. The great thing about Australia is that you can choose which type of climate you prefer and focus your attention on that area when you’re deciding where to study, applying for employment, or looking for a place to live.
Because Australia is in the southern hemisphere, the hottest months are between December and February (no white Christmas here!) and June to August are the cold months.

Temperatures

The centre of our 7.7 million square kilometre continent is desert, and you can swelter in temperatures of up to 40 °C during summer days; you do get some relief during the night as it cools down considerably. The summer temperatures in the cooler areas of Australia hover in the mid-20s to low-30s, while winter weather is moderate and temperatures very seldom drop below 6 °C

The Wet and the Dry

Many parts of Australia have distinct wet and dry seasons, particularly the tropical and subtropical zones. Hot, humid weather is typical, and, depending on where you are, annual rainfall can vary from between less than 100 mm to over 2,000 mm
