Skiing in Australia – Did you think this is possible? :-)

Visit the best of Australian snow ski resorts!

Something that you maybe have never thought about is going to Australia on a winter holiday.
Well, here are some excellent ski resorts in Australia for you to choose.

NSW

Two ski resorts, with one being the largest resort in the southern hemisphere are located just beside each other in the ski town of Jindabyne in NSW.

Perisher

You don’t have to go to North America or Europe to ski at a super-resort, there’s one on your doorstep: Perisher is the biggest ski resort this side of the world.
There’s more than 1200ha to ski or snowboard, with over 100 groomed runs and 47 lifts and
seven mountain peaks.
It’s the best mountain in Australasia to learn to ski, with 82 per cent of the terrain designated for beginners and intermediates. There is also an underground train, so you won’t have to drive on steep alpine roads.
You can stay in accommodation on-mountain or 45 minutes away at Jindabyne, which offers family-friendly restaurants, hotels and activities.

Thredbo

Modelled on a traditional Tyrolean mountain village, Thredbo offers a huge choice of accommodation, restaurants and activities right beside a ski mountain offering Australia’s longest ski runs.
What sets Thredbo apart is how many things there are to do here.
Families are particularly well-catered for, with activities from snowshoeing to tubing and tobogganing in specially staffed snow play areas.
There’s also a Leisure Centre with a heated Olympic-sized swimming pool, a waterslide and climbing wall, while there’s fireworks every Saturday evening and family fun nights on Thursdays through July and August.

VICTORIA

You can sleep right beside the ski slopes at every Victorian ski resort. The state’s three ski mountains are among the most picturesque resorts in the southern hemisphere.

Falls Creek

The prettiest ski resort in Australia, bar none. The village at Falls Creek is located right among the ski runs, nestled between huge snow gums.
You won’t need your car once you arrive, instead families are transported over snow to their accommodation in snowcats.
Families are well catered for, with everything from tobogganing to snowmobiling tours available.
With almost 80 per cent of the mountain designated beginner or intermediate terrain, there’s no better place in Victoria to learn.

Mt Hotham

It’s the only ski village in the southern hemisphere built above the ski slopes, meaning you can ride down the ski slopes without even getting on a chairlift.
It’s also the only ski resort in Australasia with its own airport, just 20km from the slopes.
While Mt Hotham is famous for its challenging expert terrain, snow novices are well catered for too.
More than 20 per cent of the mountain is set aside as beginner terrain, while there are numerous family activities off the snow to try, from dog sledding to snowshoeing. Mt Hotham also has the chic ski village of Dinner Plain right next door, home to a variety of restaurants, cafes and the best on-snow day spa.

Mt Buller

The closest ski resort to an Australian capital city, Mt Buller is an easy three-hour drive from Melbourne’s CBD.
The village of Mt Buller is located at the heart of the mountain, meaning you can ski to chairlifts from your accommodation.
There are more than 30 bars and restaurants in the village, with Australia’s best on-mountain restaurants and cafes where you can sit on sundecks overlooking the Snowy Mountains.
Mt Buller has Victoria’s largest lift network with 22 lifts, accessing 300ha of terrain, 75 per cent of which is designated for beginners or intermediate skiers or boarders. There is night skiing on Saturdays.
Hope that this information is helpful in your decision making to come to Australia and do some skiing and/or snowboarding.
